61So how do companies go about moving transportable homes? After all, a house is supposed to stay on it’ s foundation, right? In most cases, the answer is yes, however, when the house has been mass manufactured, and actually built to be moved around, under the right care and supervision, you can easily relocate them to a new lot.
The first step moving companies do when they are planning to relocate your home is to begin clearing the underside of the house from any debris, and release the straps holding it down to the ground. These straps help to prevent any damage during heavy winds, but must be released in order to allow the house to move freely.
Once the debris has been cleared, it’s time to bring in the heavier machinery. If the home was built on a steel frame, with axles welded onto it, then it is already prepared to move. The moving company may replace the tires on the frame, to ensure that it is road-ready, but there’s not usually much left to do but hook a semi truck to the hitch and prepare to move.
However, if the house wasn’t built utilizing a steel frame, such is the case with modular homes, it will have to be jacked up evenly and placed onto a trailer in preparation for towing.
After the house has been plucked from its original location, the local authorities are called in to provide a safe escort to the new lot. Because these loads are so wide, they often take up the entire roadway.This does depend on the size of the road and as I mentioned in another article, Australia is becoming one of the biggest consumers of transportable homes.
To keep the public safe, law enforcement officials will alert oncoming traffic to the hazards approaching. If they’re unable to see a house moving down the road, and officers guiding them another direction, they are in for a bit of trouble. Once the house has made its way to the new location, your moving company will begin lowering it down into its final resting place, and repeat the process from the beginning.
They’ll ensure the home is steady, usually with concrete blocks, and then proceed to attaching the wind straps and tightening them down. After a long journey, the home is at rest. It may not seem like it’s that difficult by reading this, but if you get to witness a house being relocated first hand, you will quickly gain a new appreciation for what a qualified moving company does on a daily basis.

I didn't know Australia was such a big consumer of these homes, but I'm not surprised - Australians have been relocating houses for years.
Old Aussie houses were made from weatherboard and built on stumps. You can still buy a house and "up stumps" and move it somewhere else, if you know what you're doing. But clearly, a prefab home that's designed to be transported is a much safer bet!
I loved this hub.. traveling home would be so much fun... I would definitely have one when I have more money.. ;)
