88It seems as though making money with google adsense is the first line of attack for many who wish to make money online. And you can make money with google adsense. I know people here on hubpages who make money with google adsense. In fact - I make money with google adsense.
But - here's the rub if you are new to making money online and have been sold on the idea of doing so using this method of income:
You need thousands and thousands of page views to make a reasonable income from this, no matter which niche/keyword or subject you are choosing to write in. According to Paul Deeds, the General manager here at hubpages, typical adsense earnings are between $2-$5 per 1,000 page impressions, so - taking an average of $3.50 per 1,000 page views, this will give you an idea of the levels of traffic you need to be able to generate to earn whatever your goal is.
This is an example - bearing in mind that hubpages take 40% of the page impressions your pages generate. As far as I am concerned - especially if you are new to this - this is an excellent deal for you, because there is an awful lot of technical stuff you do not need to worry about.
So - if your goal is $30 per day for instance - you need to generate approximately 14,000 page views a day. Here is the maths:
14,000 x 60% (your impressions) = 8,400
8,400 @ $3.5 per 1,000 = $29.40

If you are new to hubpages, or have been here a little while have some idea of how much traffic you get to your hubpages - this should give an idea of where you need to be to generate the income you are hoping for. Of course - this varies from subject to subject and clicks on high paying financial subjects pay more than recipes, but the traffic is harder to generate.
On the whole - and this is not always the case - search engine traffic converts best into google adsense clicks. But - there is no hard and fast rule to this - and google can change the rules or your click values whenever they wish. The process is 100% completely opaque and you have absolutely zero control over the process. You must rely 100% entirely on google telling you how many clicks you received and rely absolutely 100% on them to pay you a fair proportion of what the customer paid.
Google can can cancel your account for any reason they see fit - without giving you a reason or explanation and you are powerless to do anything about it. Occasionally you can ask to have a review done and get the account re-instated. This is not unusual and all the other online affiliate programs are similarly opaque. You could well wake up one morning and discover that your ebay affiliate account has been canceled for no reason or that Amazon no longer accepts you in their program because North Carolina now wishes to claim sales taxes from all sales made by affiliates in the state.
These are part and parcel of the hazards of earning a living online or making money blogging. My best advice to you is to diversify. Have as many different sources of traffic as possible and have as many different affiliate programs as possible in as many different niches as possible. Do not rely on any single source of traffic or income. In this case becoming a "Jack of all Trades," is far safer than becoming a Master of One. Because you could turn around and discover it gone.
Here are some resources to help you in your quest to get that traffic. The absolute best way to generate search engine traffic is to create a lot of incoming links to your pages. These are some of the tools I use and some of the affiliate programs I can recommend.

Hello, Mark, and thank you for hub. I am trying very hard to get some income. So far none. If you would so kind and have the time to look at my hubs, maybe you could put me wise where I go wrong. I would be ever so grateful. I also wrote on helium but found ut they promise one thing and do the other. I wrote on triond but don't know what to make of them.
Good advice on diversification. Hubpages seems like the best deal online for writers. I've earned a few dollars (literally, a few) from Ehow, and I'm thinking about mahalo and Ezine articles. Too bad Ebay has become harder to join.
Making money on line is hard whatever medium you use. That is why it pays to have more than one revenue stream. Excuse the pun.
Good advice. I've been doing more freelancing. I just am not savvy or quick enough web-wise to wring a buck out of this medium, but I do OK selling stuff to people who can. I'll keep writing here but I give up on making any real cash.
Thank you for the resources. I will read them carefully. I would like to branch out beyond Adsense. I had Amazon links on some of my hubs but took them down after 6 weeks because there wasn't a single click. One thing I have noticed is that my views have increased with more regular writing.

Making money with Adsense is one of the hardest ways of making money online, and you are right about diversification, it is a must strategy in our ever-changing internet. I think that I am about to reach payout here in hubpages this month, and believe it or not it is not from Adsense. Great Hub!
Great hub on making money with adsense. I am still fairly new to this, but I guess I am doing pretty good because those figures for adsense revenue from hubs is about one fourth of my average. Now if I could just increase my natural search traffic, I would be doing pretty well. Great hub and thanks for posting this information.

Pretty minimul Mark, I am approaching 3500 page views after 5 months of using Hubpages. I have deleted some hubs that had some views but were stagnating, so the real number would be closer to 4000. I have a question for you, when a hub gets tagged as duplicate, but you already have a few comments to it, are you better off rewriting the hub to keep those comments, or delete it?

Great hub. Saw this poster on another hub once ... h'mm. Kind of sticks in your mind! Google seem to rule the roost anyway. Its worth trying to make some kid of return, since others have managed to accomplish this already. They did it by making good hubs and really working hard to make the quality of hubs as high as possible. "God loves a tryer".

It is very difficult when you read in the forums about other hubbers who claim to have made $1000 in a day with Adsense if you have no idea what volume of traffic their hubs are getting. It's been about 3 years now since I read a review of adsense based on real hard data. At that time the calculations put the average Webmaster at about $50 a month from their Adsense Efforts.
Google is really cashing in on what amounts to a nearly free labor source.
I make a lot of money with Adsense... and I do it by staying extremely focused on my presentation and using scarcity on select niche properties.
In short if you want to make money will Adsense you really have to dig in and focus on your Adsense properties. Just putting up ads and writing about something you find online because you think it is "high paying" will relegate you to very average earnings.
You have go to dig in and learn how the system works. I can tell you that it's very possible to make $5-$10 a day from sites with fewer than 100 page impressions. But you will not get there by following the "Build it and they will come" advice you find online.
This is an excellent analysis and an eye opener to people who think they are going to just throw up ads and start making big money. If you do not approach Adsense form a real business perspective, you are wasting your time.
I hope people will read what you have written and take the time to fully comprehend what you have said.
8,400 is still a very high target. And some types of articles dont earn money. So 8,400 page views from those articles which earn money means producing a whole lot of articles.

Awesome Hub, Adsense is a really delicate subject and yes we are helpless against the almighty Google. Yes it must be done with a business attitude with a trial and error approach. I'm not sure if hub pages gives us the ability to give us a little creativity with our ads which is a little disappointing. I found that being a little creative with placement of ads did create a higher per visitor click through rate, but yet again, are we really receiving the "REAL" Statistics?

I am not agreed with the 1000 page views for 3.5 dollar average income formula. Because in one of my site I in average get 100 page views per day and out of those 100 page views my site get around in average 30 clicks. From those 30 clicks I get around 2 to 3 dollar every day.

Wow, I joined Adsense and hubpages about 5 months ago... wrote a few hubs and realized that nothing was happening on my account. After 5 months a saw that I made about R3.72 , that's about $0.46. Now that is obviously next to nothing but I have realized that it is possible if you get your approach right. Now I am just trying to figure out and read up some more about opening accounts elsewhere to redirect traffic more to your hubs, but honestly I am a bit lost.

Anyone who says you can become an instant millionaire with Adsense is lying to you. Follow the advice of this article and be realistic. You may get lucky and make enough money to pay some bills, but few people make enough to quit their day job. Good dose of realism, Mark!

good advice here... when you first start ( like me right now) its easy to get caught up into thinking that this will be an easy path to a passive income....thanks for the wake up!
Only time will tell in the end, I suppose. I'll just keep on writing and I'll have patience, try and experiment with a few different topics, methods, etc. and see what happens. While I think it would be great to write full time, I realize that ultimately I can only control certain aspects of that becoming a reality. The rest is a little bit luck, and a lot fate.

Thanks for the great information. I agree with you. Compared to others Google Adsense is the easiest and safest. But you must be very much familiar with Adsense terms & coditions. You can do experiments with the resorces provided by them but within their terms. New hubbers should keep in mind that you can make money from Adsense only with your own experience in writing, reading, understanding, thinking, creating, designing etc. in terms of Google Adsense.

Hi Mark, just - after 16th months of writing - got my first adsense cheque for $158.13 - so I hope it continues on - but I must say I have not done any of the techie stuff nor chosen subjects other than what I wish to write about so on this score it has probably taken me longer than the average person to get to the stage of receiving a google cheque - but I am chuffed and will continue - (at .01 cents per hour?)..cheers
I probably could never make money with adsense just due to the fact that I'm a fool. The most I make from adsense is nothing really I still haven't reached 100 dollars.

really good hub but 1400 views a day is a crazy amount i dont think i could pull that off i make around 800 at the most in one day from facebook and now my traffic is falling to 5 a day

good information. I have been with hubpages for a year now and have only made a couple of dollars. I think the economy is very bad right now and no one is realy buying things online. I have read alot of hubs how to make money on hubpages. Every one says about the same thing but in different words. This must be the hottest subject because every one wants to make money. Thing is.
