Legitimate Data Entry Jobs
75Data Entry Jobs:: What To expect
Some people are confused by the term data entry jobs and are also worried about scams. While there are a few con men in the business, there are also plenty of genuine data entry jobs out there. Not completely understanding what the job may entail, most people simply shy away from applying rather than figuring out if they are up for the task at hand. Instead of falling into the group that does not apply and go after what they want, you can educate yourself on what could be expected of you and determine if you are capable of completing the job properly.
Data entry jobs are basically entering data onto a computer, but there are a few different types of positions, or tasks you will be expected to complete. You will usually be expected to own a computer, have broad band Internet access and be available by phone if necessary.
Database Updating – As employees, customers, receipts, products, and other critical information comes and goes, the database where the information is stored requires updating. Instead of bringing in an entire workforce to update the information, companies are turning to telecommuters to get the job done. They will typically send you the new information and pay you per submission that you re-enter or update.
List Preparation – When companies run large surveys or data mining operations the information is usually scattered in an unusable manner. These types of tasks will require you to take the cluttered information and organize it into a list or database that can easily be read. Most times, the information you need will be scattered across hundreds or thousands of cards and you will have to enter each into the database in an organized manner.

Editing Existing Work – Much like updating a database, editing existing work will require you to make changes to other data entry clerks work. Editing, though, usually has you proofreading, and making small changes to the information, rather than completely removing it and updating it and this is rather different to making money online with freelance writing - you are far more constrained. With this said, editing existing databases and information does not typically pay as well as list preparation or entering descriptive data.
Entering Descriptive Data – The descriptive data that you will be entering is usually product and website reviews. Large companies outsource these tasks to data entry clerks because of the incredible tediousness of the position. You are sometimes required to use creative thinking and are not given cards to work from in these types of jobs. Hiring a full work force is not a requirement for companies any longer.
Because data entry jobs are usually short term, having an entire team in-house would be a huge expense, but the work still needs to be done, and they are a reasonable way of making money online of your typing skills are accurate.. If you prepare yourself for what you can encounter while working for them, rather than shying away from the opportunity, larger companies may continue turning to you when they need data entry jobs completed.
Couple of things to watch out for are companies asking for payment from you to gain employment - avoid these like the plague, and any unknown company that you cannot check is legitimate should also be avoided. There are plenty of legitimate data entry jobs around though.

Hey there Mark,
This is good content. So far it seems like website reviews and such are the most suited for me. I have tried a few so far, but... I don't think I hit the right ones. I was wondering if there are any entry work companies and such that you know or believe to be legitimate, that you could mention here.

Interesting stuff - I always looked at data entry as a similar sort of homebased operation as envelope stuffing. Lots of effort for little reward. Hoever, I can see why companies may wish to outsource stuff like this.
