Flat Panel TV Wall Mounts :: How To Hang A Flat Screen TV

Purchasing a new large diameter flat screen television can be an exciting time for any home owner but, unfortunately, when you get it home you quickly realize that you do not have a spot to put it. Many consumers face this problem, because they simply underestimate the size of the set they have purchased.

Thinking they can place it on a coffee table when they get home, they will realize that the table they had in mind isn’t big enough to hold the television safely. This could potentially lead to disasters if you are not careful, which is one of the best reasons you should install a flat panel wall mount. Before you begin tearing into the project, you will want to make sure that all of your necessary parts were included in the kit.

Sometimes, when you purchase lower quality mounting kits you may end up with a box that does not have everything you need to finish. It is better to find this out up front, rather than when you are a few hours into the project.

Step 1) Located the studs in your wall. If you are not experienced with finding studs inside of the wall, you may want to purchase a cheap stud finder to help. Mounting the bracket onto the studs is crucial for safety. Heavy televisions could rip the mounting bracket out of your drywall if it is not secured to the studs properly.

Step 2) Mount the bracket to the wall. Once you have marked the studs, and verified that you are going to be mounting to them, you will need to start attaching the wall side of the bracket. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific flat panel wall mount, and use the recommended lag bolts, if they are included.

Step 3) Mount the bracket to your television. Now that the bracket has been affixed to the wall, you will need to attach the remaining bracket to your television. You want to make sure that you have attached the bracket properly, to avoid having your TV land on the ground one day. Apply ample pressure to the mount once you have installed it, to ensure that it will not move around once the TV has been mounted.

Step 4) Mount the television to the wall. Get someone to help you out through this process. Lifting the television set evenly, you will want to line up the notches on the televisions bracket, to the bracket that you have mounted to the wall. It should fit much like hanging a picture on the wall, locking the two brackets together when it is installed properly. Apply pressure to the top of the television when it is on the wall, to ensure that it will not fall easily.

These are rough guidelines and the video will help with more detail.

thanks Mark, the information is quite concise & useful. Unfortunately, not all people have the insight to see through a project before they make the purchase...
