Earn Money From Home Ideas
65How To Earn Money From Home Doing Things You Already Do Well
When you first start trying to work from home you may have problems coming up with ideas on how you can earn some cash. Depending on what type of person you are, you can actually earn quite a bit of money while working out of your home. You may plan to earn money from home on a small scale, but whatever ventures you enter into, you will want to think about being able to scale the size of your operation as you begin developing your reputation and customer base.
Starting with things you already know you are capable of and enjoy doing is a good idea. Trying to learn something completely new and earn a living doing it at the same time is going to be harder – I speak from personal experience. It is all very well making money online but if you have never done so the learning curve is steep and long. It took me almost a year before I was earning reasonable money.
So – think about what you are good at already as a way of earning money from home. I have written extensively about making money online from home, but here are a few work from home job ideas that are both scalable and profitable, can be started on a small budget, and are in the “real,” rather than “virtual” world of the internet.
Home cooking
Being a great cook can earn you some money if you are crafty in business as well. Selling baked goods, healthy snacks and foods, and even full blown meals, you can earn money from home.
Ranging from creating full gourmet meals in some one's kitchen to delivering finished meals to social functions – the possibilities are limitless. You already know your strengths and weaknesses, but there are so many possibilities here. If you can bake – start with that. If you make killer appetizers of main courses – start there.
As you begin marketing your services, you will want to find ways that you can prepare large amounts of food to sell. The amount of money that you earn is dictated by how well and how much you can cook, and how well you go about marketing your business.
The minimal investment involved is going to be buying ingredients and perhaps getting some business cards printed up. But this is really minimal – I have seen some really good quality cards on ebay at less than $15 per thousand.
Not exactly massive risk – if you have the kitchen and desire but don't have the $15 – seriously – drop me a line. I don't care what the government Inc keeps telling me – things are tough out there financially for a lot of people right now.
Yard Sales and Ebay
If you enjoy shopping, or visiting local antique shops, you can earn money from home by setting up yard sales each weekend. When you can find deals in local shops, or possibly even the internet, through ebay you can resell the items at your yard sale for a profit. In order to make money by setting up yard sales, though, you are going to need to make sure you understand pricing. You will also need to figure out whether or not you will profit from different purchases before you spend any money.
This type of business does present risks, but if you become an expert at determining prices, and knowing when you will be able to profit, you can establish a healthy business over time, eventually upgrading yourself to a local antique shop perhaps.
These items of course, can also move in the other direction and you may well pick up things at other yard sales that you can then sell on ebay. The risks are relatively small if you start with inexpensive products.
Lawn care
Lawn care and maintenance is another area that people prefer to spend money, rather than complete the jobs themselves. Starting small, you will only need a mower and a weed eater to start making some money, both of which are available inexpensively on ebay.
As you begin building up a client list and become busier, you can expand by hiring people to perform the work for you. Once you have a few employees doing the work, you can focus on marketing and growing your company.
Lawn care is one area where you can easily start small, and even grow into a very large company that supports your entire local area. Once again – the only limits are self imposed.

I am itching and dying to do home baking direct to the customer but I sure the old watchdog will have me in two seconds flat.
Good suggestions. Ebay sounds interesting.
Good morning, Mark. You always come with useful things, like this one. You are my inspiration. I'll try to update all your information. Thank you very much. God bless you.

Good Ideas,very useful information.
Excellent Ideas Mark
Ebay is a great place to start!
Excellent! I've been checking into your first idea, and there's actually some demand for personal chefs. With a 60% failure rate for new restaurants, cooking from home, or in someone else's home, is a great way to get started in the culinary field, and the overhead is very low. It's a good idea to get certified in food safety first though.
Outstanding Mark. Yes, things are tough out there.
Hi Mark,
Great advice as usual but I thought I already had my good idea, writing me books... trouble is like me and my web site we are a National Secret !
Was told they'd make a good movie theme or a TV mini series... Don't happen to know Ron Howard do you ?
Tell him Fonzie sent you !
In times like these getting creative, and thinking outside the box is absolutely essential. I like the idea about the ebay thing. Been considering for a while trying it on for size. Maybe now I'll have to give it a go.
Excellent ideas Mark and thanks for sharing them. By the way is your new picture and indication of a new business venture for you? LOL
Great ideas. Well written as always
Good mister Mark.
Great hub thanks. I have always loved writing history articles and had modest success in Magazines. Once I found HubPages I was in heaven. I published some of the history hubs and then went on to write on other interests. Yes I agree it is a hard learning curve, but in my case worth it.
I am doing the one thing I love and am starting to see the financial benifits too.
As you say here there are plenty of ideas out there and once you pick the thing that you know you do well and enjoy then half the battle is won.
As usual, a lot of great ideas here - I may need them soon if my job finishes!
I have been working from home for the past 3 years and love it. I am a transportation consultant for a large account and I provide them with drivers for their product deliveries.
I use an excel spread sheet to schedule the drivers shifts and ensure I proved them with qualified licensed drivers to pull their equipment over the road. I do all this using my laptop and communicate with the account with local visits and phone calls.
As long as I can provide them with professional on time delivery service for their frozen products to destination they are happy and I get paid handsomely for providing the power:0) cheers.
I am a new fan - your hub is filled with good information and tips. I know I am going to enjoy following you and learning from you. Thank you for making it possible for me to embrace new ideas. I love it!
Thanks for the great practical, usable advice!
