Suzuki took a beating in last year’s AMA and WSBK Supersport championships. The best they managed in the World championship was a lowly 8th place. They are determined to fix that this year with an all-new GSX-R 600. This year's Supersport Gixxer comes with an all-new Engine Control Module which controls the fuel injection system and allows the rider to control the engine mapping from a switch on the ‘bars. The Twin Swirl Combustion Chamber has a new shape, which Suzuki say

will "reduce shrouding of intake valves at low lift, enhancing cylinder charging and thus increasing power output." Combined with more efficient intake ports and castings with thinner, lighter walls, an increase in compression ratio from 12.5:1 to 12.8:1 and a whole host of engine modifications for 2008, we should see a challenge from Suzuki this year.

Also heavily modified, is the exhaust system, introduced to comply with new emission regs, the triangular shaped stubby pipe takes some getting used to aesthetically. The frame is basically y=the same as last year, but Suzuki have managed to shave a few grams off – literally, 128 grams, by switching to a die cast aluminum subframe. Every little helps, I guess. Repositioned ram-air intakes and a new headlight assembly complete the changes. Whether it’s going to be quick enough to take on Honda’s CBR 600 or more importantly, Yamaha’s all-new YZF-R6 remains to be seen.

2008 Suzuki GSX-R 600 Specs

It’s a nice enough looking bike, but I can’t help thinking that if I was in the market for a sports bike, I would be buying a GSX-R 750 instead. Suzuki have consistently missed the mark with their 600, but the 750 and 1000 are always bang on. I just can’t see this new model beating the Honda in a straight fight, either on the road or the track, and Yammies new 600 looks a killer this year. Time will tell. With the AMA dropping the Supersport series in 2009, this is Suzuki’s last chance to do something clever.

Colors for this year are black, white, yellow and the usual blue. I must say it looks good in white and Suzuki are pushing the boat out with some cheap finance deal through both their website and the dealers.

I certainly hope the 2008 model performs better than last years – on the track at least. And just in case you missed them last time, here's another Suzuki Corona girl for your viewing pleasure. Maybe she can persuade you to buy one, although this one looks like she’s had more work than the bike.

Mark, Tell me how you know all about motor bikes? I understand you get the information from the Ad agency.

I not asking how you get the information. I am actually saying why is your knowledge so profound?

Are you a hidden champion of yesterday?

Your knowledge is superb

Thank you

I just love bikes Mr M - I used to race them in my younger days - I have always owned bikes and have had many in the past. Thank you for the compliments.

LOL - compusmart you made me laugh. My husband has taken one too many spills on these things! All of which I had to nurse him back to "health." It's funny now, but not at the time. And he still won't give them up.

The new R6 is gorgeous. I hope my husband doesn't see it (although he probably already has). I would love to get on one, but I still need to learn how to ride. I can, however, drive a stick so I'm halfway there...I think!

I'm definately with you on the GSX-R 750. I'm just waiting for them to come available so I can own one of my own. My only problem is I wish Suzuki would balance the price a little better. At least place the 750 halfway between the 600 and 1000, not more than halfway.

You would be hard-pushed to tell the differnce on the road, but I would say the Yamaha is sharpest and the Honda most user friendly :)

I don't have a motercycle manual for my 2008 gsxr 600 and was wondering what octane fuel the manual says to use. I know opinions very on this but I want the by the book answer if anyone has it. I am currently running 93 just to be safe but don't know that it calls for that high or not. Understanding car motors I know high compression motors call for higher octane fuels but have been looking into it and most bikes dont because of there design. Answers on the book reccomended octane would be great. Thank you all in advance.

Use 93 Octane where it's available.

The fit, finish and the noisiest airbox in the business is a pity on this bike. The rest is good.

K1 was very good back in the day and is when i got involved.

The k4 was better still.

The k6 was Awsome and alot better than previous.

The k8 was a waste of time, only beating the k6 on throttle responce but heavyer and if you had the k6 with an exhaust and mapping [£1000] you had a better bike than the k8.

The k11 is a massive jump on previous and the biggest since 2001, Showa, Brembo, revised wheel base [all be it due to having to fit around a lower further back engine and other parts] but even so makes the bike quicker to steer, the k11 is eayser to ride on the limet thanks to Showa and Brembo and is the ultimate fast bike in the real world.

People have to own a 750 to understand the hype, one of my friends rides a TT GSXR 1000 tuned to 186bhp at the wheel and where ever we pull up everyone gravitates toward his bike [it makes me laugh] over a 1 mile drag his bike was 1 bike length in front of mine and through the corners i would completely loose him, [he can ride aswell]

When i tuned my [K6] 750 to 145bhp at the rear wheel it would match any 1000nd on a drag and was miles better on corner entry, mid corner, and exit roll on [it was before as well] my friend use to get off his bike and look at my front end scratching his head.

You throw a 750 into corners, you encourige a 1000nd and thats why Suzuki call the GSXR 750 thir flagship bike.

If Suzuki gave us a 750 [or 800] with 160kg 150rwb it would be THE ultimate bike and having said that i might have a go at the k11 and see exactly what it feels like......
