Buying A Used Electric Guitar Online

By

Before you drop down all of your hard earned money on a new instrument, think about buying a used electric guitar online. Purchasing from the internet rather than a retail outlet will save you a lot of money, but there are a few things you’ll need to know before you begin shopping.

First, buying a used guitar is recommended for experienced players, because you need to have a keen eye about fakes, and damage that may affect the sound of the instrument, but isn’t visible to an untrained eye.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of scams when it comes to buying guitars, and other instruments from the internet, so you have to pay close attention to ensure what you’re getting is what you really ordered. If you order through reputable dealers such as ZZounds - you can avoid this for the most part, but it does still happen.

Still - Caveat Emptor - Buyer Beware - applies with any used product.

Now that you’ve gotten your bases covered, what type of electric guitar should you buy? If you’re just starting out, you may want to look at cheaper models that have a solid resell value. Epiphone guitars are excellent 1st and 2nd instruments to have, while something like a Gibson Les Paul collectors may not be a great unit for a beginning. Even internet websites are going to try to upgrade you to better models, or something they believe you (ahem, their cash register) deserves. One of the best online places to buy - my opinion - is ZZounds. Check their prices - plus they offer a 30 day no questions asked money back guarantee.

If you have problems determining which model is right for you, set yourself a budget. You may already have an idea of what you want to spend, but knowing for sure is a great way to cut down on your options. Set a fixed figured that you can sort the results by, and begin weeding out the ones you don’t particularly care for. A beginners, or even a 2nd guitar should run you in the price range of $100 to $250.

Going over $250 and you may end up distracted by all the gadgets on the unit, rather than learning the essence of the guitar itself. Buying a used guitar online is a lot easier if you know what you’re looking for. If the seller doesn’t provide clear pictures of what you’ll be buying, or the guitar you receive does not match what was being offered, don’t hesitate to send it back.

With a properly tuned, properly cared for guitar, you can produce some very beautiful music. However, if you’re frustrated that you just got burned by purchasing a faulty guitar, you probably aren’t going to stay motivated long enough to get through the calluses.

Good information. I can see one can make quite a saving by buying a second hand guitar.

Thank you.

I always buy my guitars second hand. Usually from pawn shops but I could see how buying them online will provide much more choice. I bought an old Dean for $100.00. Last week I bought a Fender Squire for $50.00. I own about seven guitars in all not one did I buy brand new.

Yeah - they offer far better value for money used I think.
